Light, tough and remarkably clever, the Junghans Force Mega Solar (ref. 18/1400.44) is a radio-controlled solar watch housed in polished black ceramic. Its glass solar cell dial constantly tops up the energy reserve of the multi-frequency J615.84 movement, and luminous markings at 12, 3, 6 and 9, together with luminous hour and minute hands, keep the time clear by day and by night.
The movement picks up radio time signals in Europe, the UK, Japan and the USA, connects to the Junghans app for time setting, and looks after its big date and perpetual calendar on its own. With up to 21 months of power reserve and an automatic energy-saving mode after 72 hours, it keeps running even through darker stretches. The ceramic case is 40.4mm wide and just 8.2mm thin, its ceramic case back is held by four screws, and it is matched to a ceramic strap with ice-grey synthetic rubber elements and a titanium folding clasp. Under an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and water resistant to 5 bar, this German solar watch is as comfortable as it is capable.

Timepiece History
Junghans was founded on April 14, 1861, in Schramberg in Germany's Black Forest, when Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law, Jakob Zeller-Tobler, set up a firm making parts for large Black Forest clocks; the first complete Junghans clocks followed in 1866. By 1903, Junghans had grown into the largest clock manufacturer in the world, and in 1918 it completed its nine-level terrace building, the Terrassenbau, which today houses the Junghans Terrassenbau Museum. Owned by the Steim family since 2009, Junghans remains based in Schramberg today.
In 1985 Junghans introduced the first serially produced radio-controlled table clock, and in 1990 its Mega 1 became the first radio-controlled wristwatch, with a futuristic asymmetric case designed with FROG Design. In 2018 Junghans developed the connected radio-controlled movement J101. Junghans counts itself among the pioneers of radio-controlled watch technology and works at the forefront of solar power for watches, producing its glass solar dials in numerous steps in its own grinding shop and printing facilities. The Force Mega Solar brings radio control and solar power together in a lightweight, scratch-resistant ceramic case.
